SUMMARY:Democracy Is A Creative Practice Workshops (3 Afternoons)
DESCRIPTION:Lately\, there are many circumstances for which people are compelled to speak. Some remain silent in fear. Community Media exists to provide a safe\, inclusive space to give a voice to things you are passionate about. We designed a way to support Good Trouble Messages on many topics creatively & safely in these times of anxiety & fear. Story and conversation are the cornerstones of our nonprofit business. Story crafting\, people gathering\, and uplifting voices is the practice.\nFree Speech is no longer safe because it is a reason you could be made to disappear from your home\, neighborhood\, or campus. \nWE THE PEOPLE ‘GOOD TROUBLE’ WORKSHOPS\nCome with like-minded people and find joy in the creative practice of gathering to restore democracy in America. Let’s create compelling messages of advocacy & resistance. \nWHEN: During school vacation week in April\, we invite people ages 16 and up to come together to be creative about Good Trouble. We will have talented video and audio folks at the studio to support you technically. A template is shown here that enables expressive anonymity. Come when you can\, and come often\, during Mon-Tues-Wed starting April 14. \nWHAT YOU NEED:  A desire to express yourself \nYou can bring a digital file headline\, find something that represents your concern while you’re here\, or create your own poster or bring the one you held high during the #HandsOff Rally. We will provide the tools.  Imagine your message expressed within the template video shown here. \n\nThe event is free however\, our Democracy Ts will be available for a gift of $10 during these workshop days. The workshop is underwritten by a small grant from the Ulbrich Foundation. \n\nA sustainably manufactured cotton with certified low-impact dyes printed by an in-town vender @microprintshop.com and designed by our creative team lead @Solomon Sheffield

SUMMARY:Free Immersive Workshop: Launching 'Place Yourself In History' in studioW
DESCRIPTION:Place Yourself in History An America 250 Experience hosted by WPAA-TV and Community Media Center\nPresidents’ Day Workshop\nMeet our Arts in Advocacy residents and explore how Democracy is a Creative Practice. Place Yourself in History is an immersive\, improvisation experience using digital media for discovery. \nWith greenscreen and a few creative ideas you can be placed back in time. In this workshop we will use ‘We Are The World’ (1985 video/music) and 911 (2001) images to explore how communities experience and respond to disruption one person at a time\, until it becomes people together. \nCookies courtesy of @thetastysprinkle\nWorkshop funded by Ulbrich Foundation. \nWe love heart\, culture and cookies\n  \nReimagine a photo or video\nOpen to people of all ages. With technology we can collectively and creatively reflect on how history shapes our understanding of ourselves\, our neighbors\, and our democracy.  This project begins Presidents’ Day 2025 and culminated July 4\,2026 \nThe reasons may vary\, but the stories will be told if you decide to tell them. We are here to help. WPAA-TV Team \nEvery one can take ownership of history for personal connection\, resistance\, or as part of the creative practice within a community.  With today’s technology\, you can take a photo or video and put yourself into images from your perspective: journalists\, fan\, ally\, representative of resistance or government. Your point-of-view belongs to you. We merely help you explore new ways to connect with history. \nLet’s erase ‘fake’ and replace it with ‘reflection’. If you have a video\, we may not be ready to insert you on Presidents’ day. We will work with you to determine how it can be done. We have time. The nation’s 250th birthday is next July. \nJoining the Last March of MKK in 1963\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Open StudioW Evenings
DESCRIPTION:OPEN studioW is a fresh approach to making WPAA-TV television studio resources available: Just walk in. WPAA-TV and Community Media Center schedules all resource use including studioW at WPAA-TV via this email address reserve@wpaa.tv  But spontaneous is now an option. \nstudioW staff support is available Mon-Tues from 6-8 pm. Longer if needed. Any person eligible for our resources can reserve these evenings. \nWhat is New\nIn addition to supporting spontaneity\, users can arrive at 6 and be LIVE on TV at 7 pm. Our internet simulcast is automatic and Facebook Live is also an option. We will play content from the archives\, “How Well Do You Know Us” if there is no fresh content being created in an Open studioW session. \nAnyone can drop in and be on TV the same day if there are no prior reservations. However\, we remain 1st come\, 1st serve. Reserve to plan your use but spontaneity is now an option.   \nWhen you arrive you sign in\, then determine with staff if studioW is OPEN. \nIf it is\, you then discuss what you would like to do. You may need to create a graphic or load images you have for your plan. You can be a person with an idea\, a grievance\, a story\, or a group of people with talent to share. You can start a conversation in the public interest that could become a regular show. How you use the tools and stage is up to you. That has not changed. \nWhat has changed is that we are investing in staffing at pre-pandemic levels to enable TV to be produced 3 evenings a week. Thursday has a weekly reservation. The ability to be LIVE at 7 requires some coordination between our studio & cablecast functions so please keep that in mind. FB goes LIVE on our WPAATV Page. Like and Follow to maximize your experience.  Wednesday will be added if there is community interest. \nJoin Us in studioW for what you are passionate about. \nU are Us.
