Fine Art & Tech Intersect

Fine art & tech intersect in the integrated Nelson ‘Carty’ Ford Memorial Gallery with featured installation by Apollo Maldonado at #wpaatv. Other work by featured artists Charles Buzinsky (StreetshotZ), Iyaba Ibo Mandingo (We are not like you & more), and Susan Clinard inspires reflection about our humanity. Content list here.

The gallery fosters conversation about community, history, nature, health, and empowerment. Styles vary from photography to cartoon to mixed media. The art challenges its viewers, but the gallery has a bigger challenge: being seen.

We were ready to welcome guests from #ctmainstreet the day Wallingford #EDC Staff and other community leaders were showcasing how our community embraces art & culture. WPAA-TV and Community Media Center, the location of the 1st ARCY large-scale mural in Connecticut, had no visitors. We were assured by the Executive Director of Wallingford Center, Inc., that we were included on the tour route.

Why wouldn’t we be? We are the only Art & Culture nonprofit with a physical footprint in Wallingford. Volunteers readapted a 1924 cow barn in the town center into a community space. We are recognized by both CT Humanities and the Office of the Arts.

Questions that linger: What is public art? Who decides what is valid, valuable, or what ‘We the People’ voices are represented with public art?
